I have found it's absolutely effortless to become consumed by the chaos of obligations and worries about the future and the past. But a crucial lesson for me is the value of cherishing the present moment. Whether it's relishing the flavor of a wonderful cup of Mexican coffee while sitting watching the sunrise over the lake, or actively watching nature’s effortlessness, being fully present enables me to connect with life in a special way.
That special way is the power of sitting in silence, the ego mind quiet, while the heart opens to a level of knowing without thinking.
Some lessons I’ve learned may help you along your path and I offer them making no assumptions.
Lesson 1: There is not time.
Spiritually speaking, time is of little importance. No matter whether the future or the past. The future is made up of memories, associations, previous experiences, feelings, and emotions, and that takes me out of the present in the mentality of existence. Then I lose precious moments to nothing.
With the past, I know that past thoughts are comprised of judgments, rehashing experience, endless ways to change what already happened. It too, takes me out of the now and I end up living in my head.
Even from a quantum science perspective, the notion that the present moment is all there is finds resonance in the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics. Quantum physics challenges our classical understanding of time as a linear and absolute concept. Einstein shock science when he said that time is not fundamental.
But, John Bell's theory of entanglement, where particles become interconnected and then separated then regardless of distance they remain entangled. This challenges the conventional concept of separation between past, present, and future. In the quantum realm, the concept of the "now" becomes a dynamic and interconnected web of possibilities. So, from this perspective, the present moment is not just a fleeting point on a timeline; it is a dynamic convergence of interconnected probabilities. Therefore, my focus on the present holds the key to influencing the unfolding reality around me.
Lesson 2: Change is the only constant in life.
It is perfectly ironic to me that change is despised by humanity. Or should I say, my habits. Whether drinking Mexican coffee watching the sunrise or driving the same way to work or even down to the exact amount of milk I add to my coffee. I like my habits.
The ability to accept change gracefully, whether it's in a serious, then not so serious relationship, yes I’ve had a few. Or in my career, and I’ve had a few of those or any circumstances is important. Why? Because acknowledging that nothing is permanent, I can release attachments and I find contentment in the ebb and flow of my life.
Spirituality speaking, the only thing that doesn’t change is that part of me that has always been aware. As a baby to an older adult, something remains the same. Even though everything changes there is that something in the background that doesn't.
From a life of suffering health challenges, to the joy of kids and grandkids, to peace to and back to pain, this is life. But only the life of the body, mind. Meaning that which never changes and has always been aware, even in my dreams, is the same. An everlastingtrue Self.
As I discovered, it surpasses everything else. Let everything change as this interconnected universe must. The universe is for me, not against me even in the darkest times it is clearing the path higher and higher.
Lesson 3: Compassion and Connection
An early core spiritual lesson for me revolves around recognizing the interconnectedness of all living beings (human and otherwise). Cultivating compassion for myself, then for others, fosters a sense of unity and understanding.
It brings all the great teachings into focus. If we are all connected at our core, if we are interconnected to the material universe (as we saw with entanglement physics), then peace, and joy are found in acts of kindness, empathy, and love of self and others. This creates those ripple in the cosmos, influencing not only those around me, and my own spiritual well-being, but whole of the universe.
Lesson 4: Gratitude for Life's Blessings
In pursuing my goals and aspirations, I have found myself so mentally engrossed I’ve often forgotten to be grateful.
Gratitude is important because it positively affects mental and physical health, strengthens relationships, fosters resilience, improves sleep, cultivates a positive outlook, enhances empathy, and boosts self-esteem. I consciously incorporate gratitude into my daily life through the simple remembering that nothing in my life happens without the entire universe conspiring.
Lesson 5: Surrender and Trust
Life often unfolds in ways beyond my ability to understand and beyond my control. I often feel I create and manage my life in an isolated cocoon. Yet, there is no way that everything necessary for my work or even play can take place without the required trillions of movements of this web.
For me, learning to surrender and trust is a vital spiritual lesson. Although for years I often said I trust the universe, I didn’t act that way. By relinquishing the need to control every aspect of my life, I opened myself to the wisdom of the universe. Having faith something greater knows and this was a spiritual evolution. By the way, faith is no blind, but faith which heals the blindness.
Yes, life's journey is an intricate tapestry woven with spiritual lessons that, when embraced, guide us toward a more fulfilling and purposeful existence.
As I navigate the complexities of my human experience, I more often open my heart and mind to the profound wisdom that life continuously imparts. In doing so, I have found the journey transformative, ultimately leading me to a more profound connection with my true Self and true wonders of the universe.
